About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Brooklyn at 524 Court St, Buttermilk Channel is a vibrant American brunch and lunch destination that promises a satisfying culinary experience with a distinct local flair. This warmly inviting restaurant and cocktail bar is renowned for its thoughtfully crafted menu that celebrates comfort food classics elevated with fresh, quality ingredients and inventive touches.

From the moment you step inside, the inviting atmosphere envelops you in a relaxed yet lively vibe—perfect for everything from a leisurely weekend brunch to a casual meal with friends. The ambiance is unpretentious but polished, with attentive service that truly enhances the dining experience.

Buttermilk Channel’s menu showcases a delightful range of dishes, each packed with flavor and personality. Their signature buttermilk pancakes, served with rich butter and authentic Poorfarm Farm maple syrup, are irresistibly fluffy—a sweet, buttery start that recalls the best of home cooking. For savory cravings, the famous fried chicken sandwich is a standout, boasting a perfectly crisp exterior and juicy interior, finished with a tangy coleslaw and pickles that cut through the richness. Guests often rave about the exquisite balance of buffalo sauce and the impeccable shoestring fries that accompany the sandwich, making every bite a harmonious bite of texture and zest.

The restaurant also excels with hearty, well-seasoned entrees like the pan-roasted steelhead trout served with white beans, escarole, and fragrant lemon verbena broth—a delicate and refined dish that evokes freshness from the sea. For those seeking vegetarian fare, the Market Vegetable Bowl with heirloom grains, beet tahini, feta, and za’atar offers vibrant layers of flavor and texture.

Appetizers such as the Market Greens Salad highlighted by fennel, radish, and citrus vinaigrette provide a crisp, refreshing counterpoint to richer dishes. The Green Goddess Salad, with its creamy blue cheese, avocado, and crispy bacon, brings a satisfying blend of indulgence and freshness that guests cannot get enough of. Meanwhile, the Berkshire Baby Back Ribs with peach barbecue sauce and crisp savoy cabbage slaw are a deliciously saucy and smoky option for sharing.

Customer reviews consistently celebrate Buttermilk Channel’s standout brunch items. Patrons describe the fried chicken as “mind-bendingly good,” perfectly balancing crispy and juicy textures with a flavorful buffalo kick. The pancakes are often praised for their fluffy texture and pairing with sweet, high-quality maple syrup. Even simple sides like fries receive glowing remarks for their impeccable seasoning and crunch.

Though some dishes — like the lasagna and trout salad — have been noted to lean on the saltier side, this does little to detract from an overall menu that combines heartwarming familiarity with sophisticated accents. The walnut sticky bun, short rib hash with Middle Eastern spices, and the thick, sumptuous French toast offer creative twists that keep diners intrigued and delighted.

Whether you’re seeking a classic American brunch, a cozy lunch spot, or a casual takeout fried chicken fix, Buttermilk Channel delivers with authenticity and care. Its welcoming atmosphere, inventive menu, and expertly executed flavors make it a must-visit gem in Brooklyn’s bustling food scene.

Came here for restaurant week. The kale salad was delicious, crispy and fresh and not too oily or salty. The trout salad was good too though it was a bit on the saltier side since it was cured. The entrees were ok. I ordered lasagna, it was a bit salty. I didn't taste any eggplants, mostly just squash. The fried chicken was good but nothing out of the ordinary. The Belgium waffle wasn't crispy. The deserts were good though. The pecan Sunday was delicious, although a bit too sweet. The cheesecake was delicious.

Mind bendingly good buttermilk chicken with the flair of an elevated brunch spot. Chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, with the perfect buffalo sauce to go along with it. The vegetable slaw paired nicely and was perfectly dressed (lots of places will drench these types of slaw in dressing). Even the shoestring fries that went with the chicken sandwich were immaculate. The only slight miss were the buttermilk biscuits, which were solid but nothing to write home about (seemed to be missing the hard but crisp exterior that I crave in a biscuit). Looking forward to visiting again and seeing what else is on offer.

The place is very cute and the service is great. The walnut sticky bun was great, exactly what one would expect. The short rib hash had some interesting middle eastern spices, which gave it a unique flavor. The fried chicken sandwich is enormous, the chicken is so juicy and the coleslaw and pickles are nice to cut through the fattiness. The French toast was my favorite. It's very thick but soaked all the way through, the sauce is amazing, and the whipped cream is very good and just the right density/heaviness.

Did brunch here on a busy Sunday. Was nice to see your place that is well run and able to serve a full house. Reservations look to be a really good idea on busy time is like Sunday brunch. The service was professional and friendly. Chicken sandwich tasted as good as it looked. Poached eggs were perfection. Pancakes were divine, the maple syrup was a sweet delight. And the fries, the fries! Don't forget to order some. Look forward to Dining there again when we visit family in Brooklyn.

Stepping into Buttermilk Channel Restaurant felt like stumbling upon a breakfast paradise, and their Chicken & Waffles and Pancakes sealed the deal for an authentic morning feast. The Chicken & Waffles were a revelation, with the chicken boasting a perfect crunch and the waffles a comforting canvas for the flavors. As for the pancakes, they were a testament to homey goodness, fluffy and delicious. The care they put into sourcing quality ingredients was evident in every bite. The cozy vibe of the place, combined with the friendly staff, made it a genuine, comforting experience. Buttermilk Channel Restaurant is where breakfast dreams come true, a spot I'd gladly revisit for a taste of their hearty, real-deal dishes.

I’ve been here many, many times and the food and service were always excellent. The barbecued mussels are AMAZING and something I haven’t seen on other menus in NYC. The fried chicken in any form was also fantastic and the cocktails always perfection. This neighborhood staple will be sorely missed, but I’m so glad I got to dine here last night for one final time. Be sure to check out their sister restaurant French Louie!

Buttermilk channel is one of my favorite spots in Brooklyn! Their pancakes are fantastic (and so is the jam). We also ordered the short rib hash, warm lamb salad and a side of bacon. All of which were delicious. The breakfast cocktails weren’t my favorite but I would absolutely visit again for the food and vibe!

The brunch is finger-licking good. The must try is the French toast, it’s a whole experience. But the short-rib hash also gives it a run for its money. Even the salad was really yummy and fresh. It can get a little busy though, so be ready for that.
